About Dr. Sam Schikowitz, ND, LAc, MSAOM, BA
Dr. Sam Schikowitz is a dedicated health and wellness expert with a comprehensive background in both conventional and alternative medicine. His journey began as a child in a “back to the land hippie community” in Canada, where they focused on nutrition, botanicals, exercise, and personal development. His experiences with alternative medicine prompted him to turn down a full ride to conventional medical school offered by his uncle, a gastroenterologist. He instead earned a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree and a Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Bastyr University, a leading institution in natural health education.
In the Netherlands, where naturopathic medicine is not formally recognized, I focus on integrative, non-diagnostic, and non-prescriptive care. My approach emphasizes the power of diet and nutrient therapies, exercise prescription, physical therapies, botanical medicine, and cognitive and behavioral therapies.
Practice Style
Dr. Sam provides personalized, patient-centered care grounded in the core principles of naturopathic medicine:
- First, Do No Harm: Using the most natural, least invasive, and least toxic therapies.
- The Healing Power of Nature: Trusting the body’s inherent wisdom to heal itself.
- Identify and Treat the Causes: Addressing underlying causes of illness.
- Doctor as Teacher: Educating patients and encouraging self-responsibility for health.
- Treat the Whole Person: Considering physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, and social factors.
- Prevention: Emphasizing proactive measures to maintain health and prevent disease.
